'RHOP' Alum Mia Thornton Arrested in Atlanta Over Alleged $11K Furniture Theft
Former “Real Housewives of Potomac” cast member Mia Thornton was arrested in Atlanta this week at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on an outstanding larceny warrant tied to the alleged theft of roughly $11,000 worth of furniture from a rented condominium, according to local reports.
Thornton, 40, was taken into custody after Customs and Border Protection officers flagged her as wanted, according to Atlanta police.
According to police and property owners’ accounts, the alleged incident stems from an Oct. 28 report in which the condo’s owner said Thorton and Jared McGriff vacated the unit in the middle of the night and removed multiple pieces of furniture and a television that belonged to the owner. The property manager filed a police report on Nov. 6, which ultimately led to the warrant that resulted in Thornton’s arrest on Nov. 19.
Local outlets say Thornton acknowledged she was aware of an outstanding warrant when officers approached her at the airport. Authorities have described the charges as larceny and the investigation is ongoing.
It’s being reported that Thornton faced an eviction lawsuit tied to the same property ahead of the airport arrest. US Weekly obtained a lawsuit filed by a company called Encore Management against Thornton and McGriff on Sept. 11.
The suit claimed Thorton and McGriff rented a three-bedroom, three-bathroom, 2,011 square foot property, but failed to pay the rent. Encore demanded the two be evicted and pay the $5100 they owed, plus $6085 per month that they remain. US Weekly also obtained another eviction lawsuit from 2024 where Thornton failed to pay $3419 in rent at a North Carolina property.
Thorton, who exited “RHOP” earlier this year after four seasons and recently relocated to Atlanta, has not publicly commented. It’s being reported that representatives and law enforcement spokespeople did not immediately respond to requests for additional comment.
