The-Dream Explains His Deeply Personal Connection To Megan Thee Stallion

The singer-songwriter and rapper have more than one thing in common.

R&B singer-songwriter and producer, The-Dream said that he felt a strong personal “connection” to Megan Thee Stallion because they both lost their mothers early in their lives.

  • While speaking to the  Associated Press about his writing contributions on the Houston rapper’s “Savage Remix” with Beyoncé, the Atlanta native shared that he naturally gravitated toward Megan because he could relate to her situation on a personal level.

“It’s just one of those things where you gravitate toward artists that we feel like ... (you) have something to say,” he told the publication. “And it was the mother thing that kind of got me with her — that was the connection. I lost my mom when I was 15. And so I understood what that was, you know, kind of reading and getting a read of just her life.”

  • Upon its release, the “Savage Remix” instantaneously swept to the top of the music charts because of the reaction on social media. It didn’t take long for the track to surge on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, sparking a fierce race for the top spot with Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj’s “Say So” remix before it ultimately peaked at No 2.

When she first released the song in April, Megan broke down in tears on Instagram Live while explaining to her fans how much the collaboration meant to her.

“It’s really crazy ‘cause my mama was like a really huge fan of Beyoncé. ”She used to make me watch a lot of Beyoncé stuff,” Megan said, wiping away tears. “For Beyoncé to even do a song with me, I really have been out for like two years. This the beginning of year two...like Beyoncé?”
