See Blue Ivy Live Recording Her ‘Brown Skin Girl’ Song In The ‘Making The Gift’ Documentary

Blue’s fan base, the “Ivy League,” is in full effect and already gunning for Grammys.

If there was any doubt left in your mind of Blue Ivy Carter’s vocal aptitude at just 7-years-old, even after her “Brown Skin Girl” feature for The Lion King soundtrack, she did away with it all via her live recording of the track in ABC’s Making the Gift.

In one of the more touching revelations of the Beyoncé-led Lion King: The Gift album documentary special, Blue and Bey are seen songwriting the lyrics to the record in real-time. They go over the song’s hook, which is graced by none other than Blue herself, before she takes to the mic. Afterward, Bey lets out a proud mama’s, “Okay!” after watching her daughter work her magic.

  • The WizKid and Queen Bey-assisted record received overwhelming kudos upon the release of the album. Crowning brown-skinned Black women everywhere, Bey explained it in the doc as the musical keepsake she wants young Black girls to cherish and celebrate as theirs for generations to come, including her own brown-skinned daughters. Blue’s touch topped it off perfectly and stacked up yet another star feature spot before she even hits her double-digits.

  • The Ivy League is so proud, young Blue! *Sniffles*
