Lizzo’s Touring Company Describes Sexual Harassment Allegations Against Her As ‘Fabricated’

Big Grrrl touring company has joined the singer’s defense in a new motion to dismiss the lawsuit.

Lizzo’s Big Grrrl is joining the singer in a new motion to dismiss a lawsuit that accuses her and the touring company of sexual harassment, discrimination, and fat-shaming, among other charges.

Variety reports that 18 of Lizzo’s employees have written declarations disputing the claims first filed by former dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez. In new court documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday (October 27), the Grammy-winning pop star’s attorneys label the lawsuit a “fabricated sob story” and say the plaintiffs “filed this lawsuit against defendants out of spite and in pursuit of media attention, public sympathy and a quick payday with minimal effort.”

“Plaintiffs missed flights, arrived late and hungover to rehearsals and drunk to performances, entered into consensual sexual relationships with male crew members on tour, exhibited a rapid decline in the quality of their dancing and professionalism, and ultimately conspired to make and disseminate an unauthorized recording of a creative meeting with Lizzo and the dance cast,” the motion reads, according to the news outlet.

Additionally, members of Lizzo’s touring company deny ever witnessing body shaming or other forms of harassment during their time with the singer.

Three former dancers, along with an Oscar-nominated director who exited her role in a Lizzo documentary in 2019 because she “was treated with such disrespect” by the singer, among others, are the plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

Named in the complaint are reps for Lizzo and her production company, Big Grrrl Big Touring, and a dance captain for the singer named Shirlene Quigley. The complaint describes a moment when Lizzo inappropriately reacted to the weight gain of one of the plaintiffs, along with cursing and yelling at performers. The suit also recounts an incident in Amsterdam when the Grammy winner coerced Davis to touch the breast of a nude performer.

In another allegation, Williams claimed she confronted Lizzo and was fired in a public setting by one of the singer’s agents about a week later. On the other hand, Davis alleged she was let go after she recorded a meeting with the star so she could review it for feedback purposes. According to the complaint, that moment led Rodriguez to resign.

Ariana Davis, along with another dancer, was cast in the singer’s reality show, Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, which ran for one season in 2022. According to the outlet, the other dancer was hired separately. All dancers were under Lizzo’s umbrella from spring 2021 to early summer 2023.
