Ja Rule Sentenced to Two Years in Jail

Rapper pleads guilty to criminal possession of a weapon.

Some may remember that Lil Wayne and Ja Rule were arrested for possessing the same firearm, a 40-caliber pistol and marijuana, on the same night, July 23, 2007 in New York City. The two were cuffed shortly after Weezy's concert at the Beacon Theatre.

While Weezy reached a plea deal, served 8 months in Rikers Island and has now been a free man since November 4, Rule (born Jeffrey Atkins) initially took his chances with the justice system. This morning, Rule pled guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

"Because of your guilty plea here today, you'll have a record of having committed a violent felony," Manhattan State Supreme Court Justice Richard Carruthers told Rule.  "This is a very serious matter." Now, MTV reports that Ja fessed up as part of a plea deal that will send him to jail for two years. New York's gun laws typically require a mandatory sentence of at least three-and-a-half years behind bars.
