Lil Durk’s Family Says They ‘Refuse to Stay Silent’ While His Lyrics Are Used In Indictment
The family of Lil Durk spoke out against the prosecution for the use of the rapper’s lyrics in his upcoming murder-for-hire trial.
Months before the trial begins on October 14, 2025, the family released a statement on Instagram, slamming the lyrics’ usage in court. Lil Durk, real name Durk Derrick Banks, was arrested last October in connection with an alleged conspiracy to kill rapper Quando Rondo. The alleged orchestrated hit, speculated to be in retaliation for the 2020 murder of King Von, resulted in Rondo’s cousin, Saviay'a Robinson, being slain in Los Angeles in 2022. A bond hearing for Lil Durk is scheduled for May, in which the Chicago native will learn whether he can be released from jail before the trial.
“The recent developments in Durk’s legal case have brought a harsh truth to light: the government presented false evidence to a grand jury to indict him,” Durk’s family began in the statement. “This isn’t justice. That’s a violation of the very system that’s supposed to protect all of us.”
“Durk has always used music to tell stories, to express pain to heal—and yet those same lyrics are now being used against him,” the statement continued. “We refuse to stay silent as Black artists continue to be criminalized for their creativity. Rap is art.”
They concluded, “As a family, we are asking the public, the fans, and the culture to stand with us. Stand for truth. Stand for fairness. Stand for The Voice.”
Durk, who released his ninth album, Deep Thoughts, last month, is accused of breaking down the alleged murder scheme on 2022 Babyface Ray collaboration “Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy,” although it was written months before the shooting.
