Kris Boyd Readmitted to Hospital After NYC Shooting

The Jets cornerback had a bullet lodged in his right lung after the Nov. 16 incident shared that he’s ‘coming along’ despite complications, as investigators hunt for a suspect.

New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was shot in Manhattan on Nov. 16 and has been readmitted to the hospital as he continues recovering from the gunshot wound that left a bullet lodged in his right lung. Boyd, 29, was initially treated at Bellevue Hospital after the late-night shooting and underwent multiple surgeries before being released.

He shared an update on an Instagram stories post, thanking his fans saying, “Please bear with me, I haven’t been in communication much…I was released but had to return to the hospital due to my health issues…I love and appreciate everyone of y’all dearly who has prayed/reached out even if I can’t get back to you!” with a green heart emoji. He ended the post with, Head HIGH, God is not through with me yet!” and two more green hearts.

After being upgraded from critical to stable condition earlier in his recovery, Boyd posted more updates on Instagram stories, and wrote that he was “starting to breathe” on his own and that he’s grateful.

The shooting occurred outside of Sei Less, a Midtown Manhattan restaurant, where police said Boyd and two other Jets players, linebacker Jamien Sherwood and wide receiver Irvin Charles were confronted in an altercation that escalated to gunfire. Authorities have released surveillance images of an unidentified suspect and are investigating whether the incident stemmed from an attempted necklace theft. Boyd’s injury was described as serious. The bullet traveled through his abdomen and became lodged in his right lung, requiring immediate surgery.

The Jets organization has expressed concern and support for Boyd and his family. Coach Aaron Glenn said, “Once I heard about the situation, the first thing I thought about was he just had a kid. I’m thinking about his wife. I’m thinking about his kid. I want to make sure that he’s okay. That’s the only thing that really went through my mind. And anybody else that was involved, make sure those guys are okay.”

The team placed Boyd on injured reserve earlier in the season after a separate training-camp injury, and franchise personnel say they are monitoring his condition closely.

Investigators continue to pursue leads in the shooting and haven’t announced any arrests. As doctors evaluate Boyd’s complications and next steps for removing the lodged bullet, the Jets and fans across the league are left rooting for a full recovery.
