Soul Train Awards 2022: Rémy Martin XO Elevates An Old Favorite

Three simple ingredients that leads a flavor-forward, good-to-the-last drop Old Fashioned.

Imagine curling up with an Old Fashioned cocktail as Muni Long's soft, soulful vocals or Giveon's sultry baritone voice fills your home. Add some Rémy Martin XO cognac and savor its bold flavors as it hits your tongue. Next stop, euphoria, and each of your senses comes alive. Now that right there is where you want to be.

That’s why BET is teaming up with Rémy Martin as part of the 2022 Soul Train Music Awards experience. Award-winning Bartender and Cocktail Experience Curator Josh Davis is the founder of Brown & Balanced, an organization that celebrates Black bar and hospitality professionals. Davis mixes up some of the smoothest iconic cocktails at the 16th Street bar on the southside Chicago in honor of this year's awards ceremony.

The House of Rémy Martin is iconic, not just for its renowned tasting cognac but its rich history. The company started from humble beginnings when Rémy Martin, a winegrower in France, began selling under his name. Due to demand, Rémy Martin XO was created in 1981, which became the epitome of luxury and sophistication.

A cocktail Davis recommends is the Rémy Old Fashioned. The classic Rémy Old Fashioned was created in the 19th century boasting an intense, full-bodied flavor. To recreate the iconic cocktail with his special Chicago touch, Davis adds bitters. "It's going to open up all those flavors that come from that wood that's aged in, and it's going to make this glass taste and smell amazing," Davis says. He also uses brown sugar syrup along with Rémy Martin XO and finishes with a twist of orange.

Davis teams up with influencer and bartender Tiffanie Barriere to recreate the cocktail, kicking it up a notch for an Atlanta variation. Barriere starts by heating a vanilla bean and trapping the smoke with the glass. "Being in the south, you know, we like to bring in a little feeling, bring in some hospitality," Barriere says. She mixes brown sugar and bitters and adds Rémy Martin XO to finish it all off. Afterward, she pours the mixture into the smoky cup, adding a lemon peel for a smooth and delicious experience.

The smooth taste of a Rémy Old Fashioned compares to the sultry tones of today's hottest artists in R&B, especially those featured in the 2022 Soul Train Awards. So, pour yourself an Old Fashioned and let its seductive taste take you away.
