Canadian RandB Singer Keisha Chante to Play Aaliyah in 2009 Biopic

Posted Dec. 18, 2008 - Canadian-born R&B singer Keisha Chante has reportedly been selected to play Aaliyah, the rising queen of R&B Hip Hop who died in a tragic 2001 plane crash.

The biopic, which will chronicle Aaliyah’s life from childhood to her career success and untimely death, is set to be released next year.

Aaliyah had a string of number one hits including the R&B anthem “One in a Million.” Working closely with Missy Elliott and Timbaland, she also sold 32 million albums worldwide and was nominated for five GRAMMY awards.

Chante doesn’t have an extensive acting resume but she has starred in a number of indie flicks, including the Canadian movie, the Cat's Cradle. She also has an R&B album titled “2U” released in 2006 and has another one on the way next year.

Sources close to the project say she was selected because of she looks a lot like Aaliyah.
