TikTok Star Girlalala Dies At The Hands Of Boyfriend

Broward deputies say Maurice ‘Girlalala’ Harrison was found with gunshot wounds and later died; Shanoyd Whyte Jr. faces a first-degree murder charge.

TikTok creator Girlalala, born Maurice Harrison, has died at the young age of 21. Authorities said Harrison was found with gunshot wounds in a vehicle in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida on Nov. 14. Deputies transported Harrison to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The Broward Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.

Broward deputies arrested Shanoyd Whyte Jr., 25, at the scene and charged him with first-degree murder with a firearm, saying the two had been involved in a verbal argument that escalated into violence inside Whyte’s vehicle. Investigators recovered a firearm and said the case remains under active review.

According to reports, surveillance footage captured Harrison’s final moments. The video shows Whyte getting out of the car with what appears to be a gun before the shooting. The clip has made its way online and has brought with it public scrutiny. People who knew Harrison brought up older clips that hinted at a tumultuous relationship between Harrison and Whyte. Harrison’s grieving and angry loved ones are calling for justice.

Harrison built a large online following as a wig and hairstyling influencer under the handle Girlalala. Tributes to Harrison have flooded social media timelines. A GoFundMe has been set up for funeral expenses, and it’s already raised tens of thousands of dollars, $5000 of which was donated by rapper JT, who used the tragedy as a means for calling for the protection of Black and trans women.

This tragic case has sent shockwaves through the creator community and continues the conversation about intimate-partner violence and safety for trans women. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and have urged anyone with information or footage to come forward.

RIP to Girlalala.
