JB Smoove, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jay Pharoah, and More Join Cast of Netflix's ‘Good Times’ Animated Reboot

The project is aiming for a 2024 release.

Norman Lear’s beloved television series “Good Times” is getting animated.

According to Deadline, Netflix’s reboot of the beloved show has tapped “Born Again Virgin” writer Ranada Shepard to be the series’s co-creator alongside Carl Jones. Shepard will also executive produce the comedy and serve as showrunner. 

Unidentified sources close to production note that the cast includes comedy legends including JB Smoove, Yvette Nicole Brown, “SNL” alum Jay Pharoah, “Blackish” star Marsai Martin, “Black Jesus” star Slink Johnson and Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola

Per the logline, the new animated series will follow the Evans family living in apartment 17C of the last remaining housing projects in Chicago “as they navigate today’s world and contemporary social issues. Just as the original did years ago, ‘Good Times’ strives to remind us that with the love of our family, we can keep our heads above water.”

While there's no confirmed release date for this Netflix and Sony Picture Television comedy, insiders suggest they’re aiming for a Summer 2024 premiere. Netflix and Sony PT have not provided comments regarding this information.
