The Cast Of 'People Under the Stairs': Where Are They Now?

The Wes Craven film was released 32 years ago today.

On November 1, 1991, Wes Craven's horror film "The People Under the Stairs" was unleashed upon the world, sending shivers down spines and establishing itself as a cult classic in the genre. The film follows Fool as he attempts to rob his menacing landlords, who plan to throw him and his family out of their home. What he discovers in the landlord's house is more than he bargained for, and a routine burglary turns into the discovery of a gruesome murder.  Fool manages to take down the evildoers, free their victims, and spread their wealth to everyone in the ghetto in one fell swoop. 

As we mark the 32nd anniversary of this eerie cinematic journey, it's only fitting to explore where the talented cast members and the iconic director, Wes Craven, have ventured in the years since its release. Join us as we revisit the memorable characters and celebrate their diverse careers.

  • Brandon Adams (Fool)

    Since his standout performance as Fool, Brandon Adams has continued to make his presence felt in the entertainment world. He has appeared in various television shows and films, showcasing his versatility as an actor. Some of his career highlights include roles in the "Moesha" TV series and his involvement in the "The Mighty Ducks" film franchise. In 2021, Brandon Adams took on a new role as a narrator for the Peacock series "The Resort."

  • Ving Rhames (Leroy):

    Ving Rhames, who delivered a memorable performance as Leroy, is now a renowned actor with a string of successful films to his name, including the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, where he plays the iconic character Luther Stickell.

  • Kelly Jo Minter (Ruby Williams)

    Kelly Jo Minter has appeared in many film and television projects. According to her Facebook, the mother of three is a "former actress," but one of her more recent projects was the film "Getting the Kinks Out," released in 2019. 

  • Everett McGill (Daddy):

    Everett McGill, the imposing "Daddy" in the film, he maintained his acting career, taking roles in the iconic TV series "Twin Peaks." However, he has stepped away from Hollywood. His last film was "The Straight Story" in 1999. He briefly returned for a reboot of "Twin Peaks" in 2017 but retired soon after. 

  • Wendy Robie (Mommy)

    Wendy Robie, who played the unsettling "Mommy," has also enjoyed a successful acting career, she also appeared in "Twin Peaks" and returned for the reboot in 2017. Just last year, she appeared in the film "Relative."

  • Sean Whalen (Roach):

    Sean Whalen, who played the enigmatic Roach, has continued to grace the screens of both film and television. His filmography includes several horror films and he has also made numerous guest appearances on popular TV shows. This year, he was a hitchhiker in "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" video game. 

  • A.J. Langer (Alice)

     A.J. Langer, who portrayed Alice, transitioned into a prominent acting career, starring in popular TV series like "My So-Called Life." She has since walked away from acting and, as of 2017, is the Countess of Devon who lives in Powderham Castle in England.

  • Wes Craven

    Wes Craven, the maestro behind the terror in "The People Under the Stairs," is considered a master of horror. Following the film's release, he went on to direct and produce numerous successful horror movies, most notably the "Scream" series. In 2015, he passed away at 76 years old.
