Jay-Z is having an amazing year. Since the release of his certified platinum album 4:44, the rapper has been signing on for a number of appearances at music festivals and concerts. And rumor has it, Jay might have just booked his biggest musical performance yet. It’s suspected that Hov and frequent collaborator Justin Timberlake have been flagged to perform during the 2018 Super Bowl halftime show.
According to Hits Daily Double, the chances of Hov and JT reuniting in U.S Bank Stadium in Minneapolis are very likely. In addition to collaborating on a number of hit records, including “Suit and Tie” and “Holy Grail,” the duo have shared a huge stage before. They previously joined forces on the Legends of the Summer Tour in 2013.
While Jay is still basking in the success and hype of his 13th studio album, fans haven’t gotten a full-length project from Timberlake since 2013’s The 20/20 Experience. But in previous interviews, the singer confirmed that he is working on new music. “I don’t know exactly when I’m going to put it out, but yeah, I’m definitely working on a new album,” JT said on the 97.1 Radio Morning Show in May 2016. Hopefully, if the rumors are true, fans can expect that album to drop just before game time.
Timberlake is no stranger to the Super Bowl madness though. The “Mirrors” singer performed at the Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004 alongside Janet Jackson. The two sparked controversy after Jackson’s costume suffered a malfunction during the show, prompting broadcasters to cut to commercial. Jackson was reportedly blacklisted by the NFL, and many criticized Timberlake’s silence and unwillingness to share some of the responsibility. But after 13 years, everything may be forgiven.
The rumors have not been confirmed at this time, but if they are true, something tells us there might be a spike in viewership this season. The NFL season reportedly starts on Sept. 6, with the New England Patriots kicking off against the Kansas City Chiefs.
