New Orleans Fugitive Antoine Massey Eludes Capture Post-Escape--What's His Story?

The escape involved ten inmates; Massey remains the only one who has not been captured.

On May 16, 2025, ten inmates escaped from the Orleans Justice Center in New Orleans. Among them, Antoine Massey, 32, remains at large, prompting an ongoing manhunt by local and federal authorities, according to reports.

Massey has a history of escapes dating back to 2007, including incidents in 2019 and 2023. His criminal record encompasses charges such as kidnapping, rape, domestic assault, and auto theft. Notably, in November 2024, Massey was accused of a violent attack on a woman who had reported him for a previous assault.

According to NOLA.com, Matt Dennis, who runs a prominent ankle monitoring outfit in New Orleans, strapped Massey with a monitor that he promptly severed a few years ago.

Seven Inmates Remain at Large After New Orleans Jailbreak

“Antoine Massey is a Houdini,” Dennis told the outlet. “He literally put the ankle monitor on, went straight to a location and cut it off.”

The recent escape involved inmates dismantling a toilet and sink assembly to create an opening in the cell wall, allowing them to flee through a loading dock. Surveillance footage captured the escape, which went unnoticed for approximately eight hours.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry commented on Monday’s arrests in a post to X.

“Excellent work,” Landry commended the Louisiana State Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety. “Antoine and Derrick -- you are NEXT!”

Authorities have arrested several individuals, including jail staff and Massey's acquaintances, for allegedly assisting in the escape. A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the capture of Massey.
