Jennifer Hudson Hits the Studio With Her Son for a Heartwarming ‘Best Part’ Duet

The singer motivates her son to open up his voice, surprises him with a signature high note, and gives fans an intimate look at their musical chemistry.

Jennifer Hudson may have birthed a singing sensation, and she’s already training him to be as great as her.

In a series of clips, the talk show host posted videos of her and her son, David Daniel Otunga Jr., rifting in the booth and singing their version of Daniel Caesar and H.E.R.'s record, “Best Part.”

In the first clip, posted on Instagram, the actress is motivating her son to belt out the notes to help him get comfortable projecting his voice.

The producer in the back shouts, “Don’t be afraid to give it to your momma.”

As he begins singing the end hook to the record as it fades out, fans can see Hudson smile and hype David up, patting him on the chest.

In the final clip, the “Dreamgirls” star lets out a powerhouse note that leaves her son visibly stunned before the two break into laughter and share a sweet moment.

In her caption, the “American Idol” alum made it clear the moment meant just as much to her as it did to him.

She shared that the “best part of singing is singing with my son,” adding that he was the one who asked, “Mama, let’s record one of my favorite songs together.”

The 44-year-old couldn’t resist bringing a little of her signature flair to the final slide, joking that she had to “have a lil fun with him Jennifer Hudson style with the freight train.”

Her son, in true kid fashion, quickly reminded her, “Now mama, you can’t be doing all of that!”—a moment she laughed off as “all in fun.”
