Lizzo Says She and Her Boyfriend Went From ‘Friends-to-Lovers’

The musician described her partner, Myke Wright, as her ‘best friend.’

Lizzo fell for her boyfriend, musician Myke Wright, after years of being friends.

The four-time Grammy winner, who went public with Wright in June  2022, spoke about their relationship on a new episode of podcast ‘Therapuss with Jake Shane,’ which premiered on Wednesday, May 14.

Around the 1:25:00 mark of the video below, the musician said she had a “friends-to-lovers trope” with her partner of three years.

“We both worked on this TV show for MTV. I was the music girl, he was the comedy guy,” she said. I was like, ‘He's my best friend.’ I didn't have any guy friends…I was like, ‘Wow, I can really talk to him.’”

Lizzo added that she and Wright shared a “crazy bond for years” and that because they were “friends first,” their relationship naturally blossomed.

“I do love that we were friends first, so that means we can talk about anything,” Lizzo continued.

Earlier in the interview, when asked if she’d marry Wright, Lizzo said that there’s “nobody else” she wants to be with for the rest of her life.

In March, Lizzo joked with Andy Cohen that he “outed” her relationship with Wright.

“I was in such a weird position because we’re so private,” she said in the clip below.
