Sidney Brown aka Omen, Producer Who Worked With Drake and Beyoncé, Found Dead at 49

The Grammy-winning producer was found by loved ones inside of his East Harlem apartment.

Sidney Brown, the Grammy-winning producer who worked with everyone from Lil Wayne to Beyoncé, was found dead in his apartment. He was 49.

According to the New York Post, Brown, who went by “Omen” inside the industry, was found by a family member in his East Harlem apartment on Sept. 13, but news of his death is just being released.

Brown’s mother, Martha Brown, confirmed news of his death to TMZ, which added, "the cause and manner of death are pending further study,” according to the city’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner statement given to the news station.

Concerned loved ones went to check on Brown after Barawine Harlem employees grew worried when the producer didn’t show up for his scheduled gig as a DJ, where he’s worked for more than 10 years, the Post reports.

“It is with shock and deep sadness we have heard about the passing of our dear friend Omen Sidney Brown,” Barawine Harlem wrote on their Instagram page upon learning the news of Brown’s death.

“Omen was part of Barawine’s team for over a decade bringing his unique talent to all. There are not enough words to express our feelings. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family, his friends and all who love him,” the wine bar concluded.

The DJ-turned-producer worked with several major artists at the start of his career in the 1990s, including Mýa and Fabolous. His big break came in 2006 when Brown produced the Ludacris track “Tell It Like It Is” from the album “Release Therapy.” Brown would go on to win a production Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2007 for his work on the album.

Brown also produced “Shut It Down” from Drake’s debut 2010 album, “Thank Me Later.”

“He was holistic and healthy. So we don’t know of him being sick, so this is all pretty sudden,” his sister Nicole Iris Brown, 43, told NBC News.

“I hope people will remember that he was willing to help the younger generation. He was always big on helping younger people start their careers and get themselves into the game. It was about just the music, no matter who the artist was.”
