Stevie Wonder Suing Dead Lawyer for Taking Advantage of 'Blind Man'
Deceased lawyer Johanan Vigoda took advantage of Stevie Wonder’s blindness, the singer argues in a new lawsuit. Wonder is suing to get out of a contract requiring him to continue paying Vigoda royalties even though he’s been dead since 2011.
The contract was drawn up when Wonder was 21 years old, and according to the legal documents, it stipulates that Vigoda would receive 6 percent of his royalties ”forever.” Unbeknownst to 65-year-old Wonder, the label had been cutting checks to Vigoda’s widow, Susan Strack, for a while now.
Wonder, who has been blind since shortly after birth, asserts that he wasn’t aware of the payments until two years ago. He says Vigoda “took advantage of a blind man,” and tricked him into signing the contract.
What’s more is that Strack wants at least $7 million from Wonder. She filed a suit against the singer to make him shell out royalty payments until the end of time, including back pay from when she stopped received checks.
