Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Grace The Stage To Accept The 2022 NAACP President’s Award

The couple was recognized for their humanitarian and social justice work.

Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, were recognized at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards by accepting the President’s Award for their work around social justice.

Gracing the stage, the Duchess said, “we are so deeply humbled to be here in the company of so many illustrious awardees.”

“It’s inspiring to think about the legacies surrounding the Image Awards, which began shortly after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. And today, we can continue that legacy by reestablishing voting protections in our country and fulfilling the work of civil rights giants like the late John Lewis.”

Before getting deep into his speech, Prince Harry spoke briefly on the conflict waged between Ukraine and Russia.

“Before I begin, we would like to acknowledge the people of Ukraine, who urgently need our continued support as a global community.” He thanked the Black community for welcoming him and saying, “I think it’s safe to say that I come from a very different background than my incredible wife, yet our lives have been brought together for a reason.”

“And I couldn’t be prouder that we’re doing this work together,” Duchess Meghan added.

She has helped bring clean water to Rwanda, visited schools in India, and inspired many women in South Africa with her encouraging words and call to action.

Prince Harry’s compassion has extended from Nepal’s earthquake recovery all the way to Barbados to help empower young people in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

“It’s inspiring to think about the legacies surrounding the Image Awards, which began shortly after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965,” said the Duchess. “And today, we can continue that legacy by reestablishing voting protections in our country and fulfilling the work of civil rights giants like the late John Lewis.”

Previous winners include but are not limited to LeBron James, Rihanna, Muhammed Ali, Colin Powell, and Jay-Z.
