A 2 Live Crew Biopic Is Coming to the Big Screen

Lionsgate Films has picked up the movie for the Miami hip-hop clique.

2017 will definitely go down in history as one of the best biopic years yet.

Following the biopics of music legends like Tupac Shakur and Xscape, Miami’s hip-hop flagship group 2 Live Crew is storming to the big screen for a memoir-adapted biopic titled The Book of Luke.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the group’s movie adaptation will stem from the Book of Luke: My Fight for Truth, Justice and Liberty City biography written by author Craig Williams.

The film will reportedly chronicle the group’s controversial obscenity introduced to the masses through their music, how it landed in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and then made it all the way to the Supreme Court. 2 Live Crew directly impacted the court’s decision to establish the fair use doctrine in copyrighted works and sampling music as a form of parody.

The site adds that the crew’s leader-slash-hype-man-slash-manager, Luther Campbell, a.k.a. Luke Skyywalker, will be spotlighted in the film for his role in the court’s ruling in favor of the group as well. Additionally, Lionsgate, who is also behind Pac’s All Eyez on Me biopic, will be teaming with Temple Hill Entertainment to handle production duties for the film.

No official word on the release date has been announced just yet, but we’ll be on the lookout for further promotion and details in the meantime.
