Verzuz organizers have announced a special holiday battle, featuring Chaka Khan and Stephanie Mills in a night for the queens, according to Complex.
The two iconic singers will go hit-for-hit on Thursday (Nov. 18). How things change: In late June, Mills appeared on The Breakfast Club and said the Verzuz team had not expressed an interest in the event.
“We tried. George [Fuller] -- who’s Chaka’s manager -- and my manager [Amp Harris] reached out to them but they weren’t interested,” she said during the interview. “Chaka was interested. We were willing to do it. The Verzuz people weren’t interested.”
Harris eventually got in front of the mic and informed the Breakfast Club viewership that he was working with the Verzuz team but didn’t provide much detail. “Oh, now they wanna do it?” Mills said. “I don’t want to do it.”
Despite her feelings four months ago, the “Home” singer is ready to battle. “It’s about to go down,” she wrote on her Instagram caption, promoting the event.
“Queen I love me some you!” she commented under Chaka Khan’s IG post about the event.
The event is powered by Hallmark Mahogany and will air on Triller, FITE TV and Instagram Live. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and Three 6 Mafia’s battle will take place on Thursday (Dec. 2).
