Spotlighting Black Fine Artists Depicting the Beauty of Blackness

Our artists use their mediums to express the joy and love of Black expression and Black beauty that persists even in continued subjugation.

Author Toni Morrison is famously noted for saying, "This is precisely the time when artists go to work--not when everything fin, but in time of dread. That's our job!"

In this essay for The Nation, Morrison goes on to say, "Dictators and tyrants routinely begin their reigns and sustain their power with the deliberate and calculated destruction of art: the censorship and book-burning of unpoliced prose, the harassment and detention of painters, journalists, poets, playwrights, novelists, essayists."

Art is resistance, we want to share some of the artists that use their medium to express the joy and love of Black expression and beauty that persists even in continued subjugation.
