Tia Mowry Reflects on Sister, Sister’s Rocky Start and The Network That Saved It
Tia Mowry was going down memory lane on her Instagram recently, detailing her rise to fame.
Before landing her hit television series, “Sister, Sister” with her sister Tamera, the twins were originally in a group called Voices.
In addition to being a part of the R&B quartet, they also were in the crowd watching their brother Tahj Mowry perform on “Full House” alongside Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
Mowry revealed in the slideshow that she and Tamera would babysit the twins in-between takes.
“Everyone thought it was the cutest thing,” she wrote on the infographic.
The actress revealed Suzanne De Passe discovered them and began writing a series for her and her sister alongside Kim Bass. The plot for the series was inspired by “The Parent Trap.”
Although the series wasn’t initially picked up by ABC, it was considered as a midseason replacement and eventually became a hit and placed in the Top 10.
Despite its success and popularity, the network decided to nix the series the mother of two recalls, citing the reasonings were a change in direction.
“They wanted to shift the focus to shows like “Friends” and move away from the TGIF family block,” she wrote.
She shared that they didn’t give up on the series.
The network, The WB, picked up the series with a guaranteed 100 episode order.
She ended the carousel, opening up about the different paths to greatness.
“Every closed door, every challenge, every delay, it’s all building the strength for what’s coming,” she said.
“Keep the faith. You’re already walking in your purpose.”
