Court Grants Travis Hunter's Father Permission to Witness Son's NFL Draft Moment
Travis Hunter Sr. has received court approval to attend the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay where his son, Colorado standout WR/DB Travis Hunter Jr., is projected to be among the top selections.
This father-son moment comes after Hunter Sr. was notably absent from his son's Heisman Trophy ceremony last December, a bittersweet achievement for the talented two-way player who made history at Colorado under head coach Deion Sanders.
Hunter Sr. is currently serving a three-year probation that includes one year of home confinement after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including a felony stemming from a 2023 arrest. While the court has granted permission for him to attend the draft, his movements will be strictly limited to his hotel accommodations and Lambeau Field where the event will take place.
The father-son relationship took center stage during Hunter Jr.'s emotional Heisman acceptance speech last year when he addressed his absent father: "He's not here and wasn't able to make it, but I know you're watching on TV," Hunter Jr. said. "I did it for you, man."
Legal Hurdles Prevented Earlier Reunion
Hunter Sr.'s legal situation prevented him from witnessing his son receive college football's highest honor last December. He had been sentenced to 90 days in jail in September related to the same incident but was released early on December 5 – just nine days before the Heisman ceremony, but still too late for travel arrangements to New York.
During that poignant moment, Hunter Jr. continued his tribute: "From not seeing probably two games in high school to seeing me on TV every weekend and coming to see me. That means so much to me. I know you wanted to be here and you can't, but trust me, I got you. I'm bringing the trophy home. I love you."
For Hunter Jr., having his father in attendance at the NFL Draft represents a meaningful milestone as he transitions from college superstar to professional athlete. When Commissioner Roger Goodell calls his name in Green Bay, Hunter Jr. will be able to share that life-changing moment with the man he's dedicated his success to.
