Read the Heartbreaking Letter Clive Davis Sent to Whitney Houston Begging Her to Get Help

"When I got home, I cried," he wrote.

Whitney Houston’s death ranks as one of the most tragic in music history.

To that note, music mogul Clive Davis is slated to release his forthcoming documentary, Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives, and it’s apparently going to feature a letter Davis wrote to the famed singer after he saw her looking gaunt at a 2001 event.

"Dearest Whitney," Davis wrote in opening the letter. "When I saw you Friday night at the Michael Jackson concert I gasped. When I got home, I cried.” Clive’s referring to Whitney’s appearance, which was ravaged by drug abuse. It’s a subject set to take up 25 minutes of the planned two-hour, Chris Perkel-directed film.

“My dear, dear Whitney, the time has come,” he continues in the letter.” Of course I know you don't want to hear this. Of course I know that you're saying that Clive is being foolishly dramatic. Of course I know that your power of denial is in overdrive dismissing everything I and everyone else is saying to you. … I join your mother in pleading with you to face up to the truth now, right now, and there is no more time or postponement. You need help and it must begin now. I will stand by you with love and caring to see you through it to newfound peace and happiness in every way as a woman, as a mother, as a role model to inspire the rest of the world. Love, Clive."

Whitney Houston died on February 11, 2012, the day of Clive Davis’s actual Grammy party, after substance abuse took a fatal toll on her body. The Michael Jackson concert Davis was referring to took place on September 7, 2001.

Overall, Clive Davis’s forthcoming documentary will portray his life and a comprehensive look at his career. "I'm thrilled with the footage I've seen so far," he told The Hollywood Reporter of the doc. "They've done an incredible job. I think it's honest; it's revealing and some of these things have never been seen before. The footage I've seen has knocked me out."

Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives is slated to be finished in early 2017, hopefully in time to make its festival rounds. A preview screening of footage of the documentary took place on August 25 in West Hollywood.
