#BlackMomMagic: See This Photo Shoot Of Breastfeeding Moms Going Viral

Meet the Chocolate Milk Mommies of Birmingham.

Nine Black mothers from Alabama have gone viral with a photo shoot celebrating the natural act of breastfeeding. The women are part of a support group dubbed the Chocolate Milk Mommies of Birmingham, which originally connected for a PSA photo shoot organized by one of the moms, Angel Warren, during Black Breastfeeding Week back in August.

Their second shoot featuring the women topless while feeding their babies, wearing black dresses and gold accessories and crowns, has been circulating the web and spreading awareness for normalization of breastfeeding. We’re totally here for all the Black mama magic!

26-year-old Charity Moore, who’s featured in the shoot, told Yahoo Lifestyle, “We wanted to do something to capture the essence of how natural breastfeeding is,” she said. “We used crowns to remind each other that we are queens and to keep one another lifted. We chose to come together to normalize breastfeeding. And it’ll never be ‘normal,’ unless it’s seen.”

The photographer behind the stunning shots, Lakisha Cohill says she never expected the shots to go viral but is pleasantly overwhelmed by all the support. “I wanted to spread a beautiful, positive message through art, because these images are so powerful, and tell so many beautiful stories. Each woman represents a different chapter, including the one behind the lens.”

As for the haters? Charity says, “Stop treating breastfeeding like it’s some dirty shameful act that people should keep hidden and stop doing as soon as possible. Breastfeeding is an amazing part of life and should be celebrated, not treated like some dirty little secret.”
