Ryan Coogler Wins Best Original Screenplay for 'Sinners'
Ryan Coogler has won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Sinners, adding another milestone to the film’s historic Oscars run.
Coogler’s script blends supernatural horror with cultural commentary and emotional drama, creating a genre-defying story that resonated strongly with critics and audiences alike.
The win places Coogler among a small group of Black writers recognized in the category’s history. Jordan Peele remains the only previous Black winner, having taken home the award for Get Out in 2018.
"All of my cast and crew, please stand up, you guys are amazing, " Coogler said as he accepted his award.
With Sinners earning a record 16 nominations, Coogler’s screenplay helped lay the foundation for one of the most celebrated films of the year.
