Dascha Polanco Wears a Bathing Suit to Attended NYFW Show

The OITNB star says Selena Quintanilla inspired her outfit.

OITNB star Dascha Polanco has never been shy of flaunting her curves—and her recent appearance at The Blonds New York Fashion Week show was no exception.

Rocking a black and white jumpsuit and a floor-length, embellished duster saturated with sequins and crystals around the Virgin Mary, the 33-year-old actress looked absolutely heavenly. She finished off her look with strappy black heels, gold rings, a diamond nameplate spelling her name "Dash" and a deep crimson lip.

When asked about her ensemble, Polanco told Vanity Fair, “[Stylist] Darius Baptist thought that I should wear a bodysuit and just show my thighs, since I’m so self-conscious about them. But f%ck it, this is me, this is who I am, this is real. I was made this way. There’s people that are paying for this.”

And for Polonco, her outfit also embodied her ethnic and religious pride.

“[The Blonds] thought that it would go great with my personality, how I like to embrace who I am, being a Latina." She added, “I love Selena [Quintanilla], so I’m channeling her up here,” she said, motioning to her chin-length bob, “[and] with the nails, just a modern type of Selena.”

During the Sunday night event, Polanco say front row with the likes of Teyana Taylor, Christina Milian, June Ambrose, Amanda Lepore and Kelly Osborne (who she took a selfie with below).

Despite having 2 million followers on Instagram, being on a hit show, having won two SAG awards, Polanco admits that the fashion world has been slow to embrace her—and her curves. Last month, she opened up to Vogue how that makes her feel.

“I understand that it’s business, but still, it’s like, really? My industry friends, who are clear and honest with me say, 'Girl, they don’t have your size, and you’re not at that level yet, so you have to either move that way or just build those relationships so that later in the future maybe it happens.'”

"[Meanwhile], it’s funny that a lot of the brands are dressing people who are not offering anything as far as talent, they’re just out there,” she added.

Yet, the Dominican bombshell has learned that size doesn't negate one's worth and she hopes she can help "break" fashion's narrow barriers.

“Even though I’m a size 8 or 10, I still can look as great as someone who’s a size 0. This is why I work out; I’m making sure my body looks how I want it to look, so that I’m confident enough to wear a transparent cat suit, or show skin. Every day, women have to boost themselves up. You have to look at yourself in the mirror and say, 'I am fabulous, I am beautiful, I am me, and I am my own best competition,'” she concluded.

Well, it can't be denied that this particular outfit and her amazing thighs have defintely sparked a long overdue and much-needed conversation about sizeism in high fashion. Thank you Dascha.
