Harriet Tubman Tribute Removed From National Park Service Website

References to ‘enslaved’ people and the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 have also been pulled.

While DEI rollbacks persist, a major charge has been made to the National Park Service website involving Harriet Tubman.

As noticed over the weekend, the famed abolitionist and social activist was quietly removed from the website’s ‘Underground Railroad’ webpage amid surmounting anti-DEI pressures from the Trump Administration. As reported by CNN, the original National Park Service page included a Tubman quote along with an image of her. Additionally, references to enslaved individuals and the 1850 Fugitive Slave Act have also been scrubbed.

In a report by the Washington Post, the publication took notice of the page now highlighting tribute stamps of multiple civil rights leaders while a slogan reading “Black/White Cooperation” is also shown. But in the ‘People Section,’ Tubman can be found amongst Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth, which reportedly appears to have been untouched since January 28, 2025.

Frankly, Tubman’s story and legacy should be understood, since she guided roughly 70 enslaved people to freedom as a conductor from Maryland to Philadelphia on the Underground Railroad. After a lifetime of dedication to freedom, civil rights and women’s rights, Tubman died in 1913 at 91.

“The National Park Service has been entrusted with preserving local history, celebrating local heritage, safeguarding special places and sharing stories of American experiences,” the National Park Service said in a statement, per WP. “We take this role seriously and can point to many examples of how we tell nuanced and difficult stories about American history.”
