Tyrese in Trouble: Actor Charged After Dog Mauling In Atlanta

Authorities warn about public safety after repeated complaints; Gibson has rehomed the dogs and expressed condolences.

R&B and movie star Tyrese Gibson has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty in Atlanta after one of his dogs allegedly killed a neighbor’s pet.

Fulton County police say Gibson owns four Cane Corsos, a very large breed. On Sept. 18, one of them reportedly attacked and killed the neighbor’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, a much smaller breed. Surveillance footage allegedly showed Gibson’s dog scratching at a door just minutes before the neighbor’s dog was found dead. The Spaniel sustained horrific injuries: separated and broken ribs on his right side, blood on the left side of his rib cage, and light puncture marks on his stomach, as well as severe internal bleeding, according to a police report.

Police confirmed Gibson’s dogs’ troubling history. In the report, some of Gibson’s dogs were seen running through the neighborhood more than five times over the past few months, and Gibson had received a warning on Sept. 7. He also received a notice of a special permit he needed for having more than 10 dogs, according to the report. It’s not clear how many dogs Gibson has.

Gibson turned himself in and was booked into Fulton County Jail on one count of animal cruelty before being released. His attorney, Gabe Banks, called the case “shocking and traumatizing” and said, “Mr. Gibson extends his deepest condolences to the family who lost their beloved dog to this tragic incident that occurred while Mr. Gibson was away from his home.” Gabe also shared that Gibson is cooperating fully with police and according to reports, has rehomed his Cane Corsos.
