Jeezy Releases New Album ‘The Recession’ 2

It features E-40, Yo Gotti, Rick Ross, and more.

Fresh off of a high stake Verzuz battle with Gucci Mane, Jeezy has released his tenth studio album, The Recession 2

The 15 track album features appearances from E-40, Yo Gotti, Rick Ross, and more.

Similar to the original Recession that dropped in 2008, The Recession 2 reflects on 2020. “It just really inspired me to touch on some of that, but at the same time, motivate my people and give them something to help them through these times and to celebrate, because the shift is happening,” said Jeezy in a recent interview with The Ringer

“Things are happening, but not to forget about the moment, because it’s been surreal for even me,” he continued. “When I wrote the last Recession, we were celebrating. Barack Obama was coming into office. Things were different. It wasn’t this bad. So this is a different feel.”

Ahead of The Recession 2’s release, Jeezy faced off against Gucci Mane in one of Verzuz’s most anticipated match-ups yet. It had some very intense moments, such as when Gucci Mane performed his 2012 diss song “Truth” that references the fact that he killed one of Jeezy’s associates Pookie Loc in self-defense after a robbery attempt.

After the performance of that particular song, Jeezy addressed Gucci Mane by giving him some deserved respect for what he’s done for trap music. "The sh*t we came from in the street, dawg, you see that we been through it,” he said. “Twenty years. And when I said I wanted to do this sh*t for the culture, that’s what I wanted to do. I brought you here to show you the world care about what the f*ck we got going on 'cause we are the culture. You feel me? Me and you, where we came from, what we been through, n***a, us.”

At the end of the match, the two came together to perform their 2005 hit single, “So Icey,” officially burying the beef that they had with each other for fifteen years.
