Dinner and a Movie: What To Pair With This Week's Friday Night Kickback Movies 'Stay Out' and 'Sisters'
This week’s edition of the Friday Night Kickback features “Stay Out” and “Sisters.” No movie night is complete without food and beer. This week’s pairings are orange pepper wings and a good whiskey-based, spring/summer-inspired drink.
The Movie: “Stay Out”
“Stay Out” is a supernatural revenge flick rife with racism as the invisible, but palpable monster, possessions, and good ol’ otherworldly revenge. When a man inherits his late aunt and uncle’s property, he learns that his uncle was murdered under suspicious circumstances by white townies who don’t want them there, and goes on a wild ride when his uncle’s spirit comes back for some payback.
The Snack: Orange Pepper Wings
The beauty of chicken wings is that they can be a snack or a full meal. It’s whatever you want to do! In this case, ditch the lemon pepper and try some orange pepper wings for a change. Pair them with a salad or side of your choice, or keep it light with some crudites and dip as a side. If you don’t eat chicken wings, there are some plant-based methods of making this, too. Cauliflower, oyster mushrooms, and tofu are good chicken substitutes.
The Movie: “Sisters”
A group of sister-cousins are pushed to the limit when they have to raise money for their ailing grandmother by any means necessary. The extreme lengths they will go to might involve them risking it all for a mega heist, or two, or three.
The Cocktail: Blackberry Smash
Ease the tension from the movie's suspense with a nice drink that’s perfect for spring and summer. Grab some Uncle Nearest whiskey (or your whiskey of choice), and pair it with lemon juice, fresh muddled blackberries, simple syrup, mint leaves, and crushed ice for a relaxing refresh.
