Summer Starts July 22 When Metro Boomin Drops ‘A Futuristic Summa’

From the first single ‘Slide’ with Roscoe Dash, to a twenty-track lineup, Metro is ready to shift the culture again.

Super producer Metro Boomin dropped the news that his new mixtape “A Futuristic Summa” is set to release on July 22. According to a tweet from Metro on X, the tape will feature 20 tracks and what he calls an “all-new cast” of artists outside of the usual collaborations he typically links with. DJ Spinz hosts the tape, and on July 4th, the first single, “Slide,” featuring Roscoe Dash, was released.

Different artists in the lineup, but the momentum from the chaos that “Like That” started between Kendrick Lamar and Drake is still in the air—a moment Metro helped shape when he dropped both We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You with Future back to back. Both albums debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and earned five Grammy nominations, so the expectations for this project are extremely high.

The cover art is very ’90s Freaknik coded. It’s cartoon characters on a summer day doing the summer rituals—women sitting on top of a car chatting, the ice cream truck in the background, with the kids playing. It’s the depiction of a summer day on the block, and we hope that’s what the music gives.

While the excitement brews for “A Futuristic Summa,” some fans are still wondering what happened to the collab album with JID. When asked about the project in an interview with Complex, the JID said, “I’m not going to tease and say ‘hey,’ no, this is it. I promise when it’s presented, you’re going to understand exactly what it is. There’s not going to be so much of a mystery around it.”

Metro isn’t new to working with some of the South’s most influential names. He and Quavo go way back—from the Migos era with “Bad and Boujee” to “Rap Saved Me” off Without Warning with Offset and 21 Savage. So while this new tape might come with an “all-new cast,” his track record says he knows exactly how to pick them.
