12 Days of Pride: Durand Bernarr’s Voice Is Liberation Wrapped in Funk and Flair

The genre-blurring artist opens up about self-expression, sound, and the superpower of queerness.

Durand Bernarr is a sonic experience. With a voice that bends genres and a presence that lights up every stage he touches, Durand brings soul, funk, and unapologetic flair to every note. 12 Days of Pride is BET.com’s celebratory campaign that uplifts Black queer voices who embody Pride as both resistance and joy. His music doesn’t just entertain—it liberates, challenging norms and inviting listeners to live a little louder.

In his 12 Days of Pride feature, Durand opens up about the freedom he finds through music and the power of showing up as his whole self. “I feel queer is an umbrella that I can kind of sit under, but it doesn’t restrict me to certain practices or ways of how I should move intimately,” he says. “But I still hate labels. Labels are for food, labels are for clothes—barely music. Labels are weird for music. I’m just grateful that I am able to be in the position that I am to be myself.” With humor, heart, and unmistakable style, he reminds us that queerness isn’t a limitation—it’s a superpower.
