‘Catch a Bullet’ Drama: Jada Pinkett Smith Faces Explosive $3M Lawsuit

Bilaal Salaam says a volatile 2021 encounter led to intimidation, harassment, and a campaign to silence him.

Will Smith’s longtime friend and former assistant, Bilaal Salaam (a.k.a. Brother Bilaal), has filed a $3 million lawsuit against Jada Pinkett Smith.

In court documents obtained by People, the lawsuit alleges that in 2021, Smith threatened his life over personal details he revealed publicly about her and the Smith family.

In the complaint, Salaam alleged that he was confronted in the lobby of the Regency Calabasas Commons on Sept. 25, 2021. During the heated exchange, Pinkett Smith, accompanied by several members of her entourage, made threats towards the former assistant.

She allegedly “became verbally aggressive, and threatened Plaintiff by stating that if he continued ‘telling her personal business,’” he would ‘“end up missing or catch a bullet.’” He also claims that Pinket Smith “demanded” he sign a nondisclosure agreement, “or else.” Six months later, after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage at the 94th Academy Awards, a PR crisis ensued for the family.

In an all-hands-on-deck move, Salaam claims that he was asked to come to the family’s aid through a mutual friend. When he refused, tensions escalated. He apparently began receiving threats from both Smith and Pinkett Smith’s circle of friends and associates, and was targeted in a "retaliatory campaign" that was "launched against him."

"Plaintiff refused to perform tasks he believed were illegal, unethical, or morally compromising, stating his conscience would not allow him to be involved in any cover-up or deceptive PR campaign," Salaam's filing alleges.

After it was discovered that he was writing a tell-all memoir about his time working and befriending the Smiths, the threats only increased.

During a 2023 interview on “Unwine Tasha K,” Salaam alleged that he walked in on the couple engaged in sexual acts with another well-known star. In an appearance on “The Breakfast Club,” Pinkett Smith laughed off the accusation. “Let me just say this,” she told host Charlamagne tha God. “It’s ridiculous, right? And it’s nonsense.”

Salaam is citing emotional distress and lost business opportunities as a direct result of Pinkett Smith’s actions.

He seeks $3 million in damages.

As of Tuesday, representatives for the Smith family have yet to publicly comment on the accusations.
