‘Tyler Perry’s The Oval’: The Franklin Family Bond Over Dysfunction

Victoria makes a bombshell revelation about Gail’s fate.

“Tyler Perry’s The Oval” picks up from the moment Victoria decided to strangle Jason. She’s doing so with an astonishing amount of strength, but that’s rage for you. Hunter is reaching through the bars of his cell, trying his best to pry her off. Eventually, she lets up on her own, but chaos still abounds. It turns into a verbal war as Victoria and Jason go back and forth, antagonizing each other over how terrible each has been. All of this is going on in between flashbacks of Victoria’s and Jason’s psychotic behavior over the years.

The gist of this episode is that everyone is formulating a plan and figuring out their next steps. The people who are trapped want to get out, and the people who feel like they’re on top want to keep it that way. Let’s fast-forward to the Oval Office. Eli is meeting with his new fixer, Constance, but she wants to chat with Hunter and Victoria. They’re obviously indisposed at the moment, so Eli tells her that can’t happen and she tells him that she can’t work for him if that’s the case, because she needs to know what she’s walking into and thinks he’s just showing her what he wants her to see. In other words, if she doesn’t get a clear story from both parties, then she can’t craft the best narrative to feed to the public. Constance ain’t here for the bull. She demands to speak with Victoria, Hunter, and Donald, or she’ll walk. Eli is desperate enough to let her do it but he has to get it all arranged first. She says she’ll be on standby until that happens.

Back at the bunker with Victoria, Hunter, and Jason, we start to delve deeper into their family dysfunction. Victoria tells Jason that Hunter liked the idea of her being pregnant because it was good for his political career, but he didn’t consider that children actually need things. Jason tells his parents that they gave him everything but love, which was the one thing he needed. Eventually, Jason revealed that he killed Victoria’s mom, and she said she wanted that bish dead for a long time and that this is the first time she was actually proud of Jason. They bond over that sick moment, and then Jason asks where Gail is. Victoria says Gail is another bish she can’t wait to die, but ultimately, she sent Gail to a place where she’ll do hard labor and worship someone they call the highest.

Did you catch that? Gail is with the Rakadushi, which means the government has been protecting their culty crime ring all along. But we suspected this all along, right? Jason obviously knows who they are and reveals that he spent time there while on the run, but he didn’t see Gail. He’s disturbed because that place is crazy, even by Franklin family standards. The serial killer of the family said it’s a wild place. Ultimately, that riles Jason up enough to reveal that he smuggled a knife in there. He pulls it out of his boot, grabs Victoria, and stabs her, and that’s how we leave things for now.
