Nicki Minaj Course Being Offered At UC Berkeley

The course will be available for the upcoming spring semester at the California university.

The University of California, Berkeley, will offer a course on Nicki Minaj for its upcoming spring semester.

According to KTLA 5, the course is named “Nicki Minaj: The Black Barbie Femmcee & Hip Hop Feminisms.” The course will prompt students to digest and consider Nicki’s impact on the hip-hop industry and how it connects to the “broader historical-social structures and hip-hop feminisms,” the course professor tweeted Thursday (Oct. 6).

The course will last a full semester; the details have yet to be finalized, but they will be shared once they are. Nicki, 39, caught wind of the tweet and responded, “I’d love to stop by.”

Nicki is not the only rapper with college-level courses based on their career. Concordia University in Montreal, Canada is offering a course on Kendrick Lamar for the winter 2023 semester.

Taught by Professor Yassin “Narcy” Alsalman, who is currently teaching a Kanye West course, the Lamar-focused course “will serve as a venue for exploring contemporary issues in relation to personal lived experiences of hip-hop culture, while considering historical context.”
