Patrick Beverley Breaks Silence After Shocking Felony Assault Arrest

The former NBA guard responds to the internet’s wild theories after his family-related assault charge sparked nonstop conversation.

Patrick Beverley is pushing back after his arrest on Friday (November 14) made headlines, and the internet rushed to fill in the blanks. The former NBA guard shared a statement on his official X account, and the message, written by his lawyer, tried to calm the speculation that spread the moment his charge hit social media.

“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister a young lady a minor,” the statement said. According to his team, Beverley walked into a situation that would have any protective sibling on alert. The statement explained that “when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an eighteen-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister.”

When the incident first occurred, it was assumed that Beverley had fought the young man he found in the house. That changed once court documents revealed the charge was “Assault Family or Household Impeding Breath in the third degree.” Since that charge applies to a family member, not a stranger, internet detectives quickly built a different version of the story. Many began posting that the person harmed must have been his younger sister, Mya. Some even suggested that the phrase “impeding breath” meant Beverley choked her in anger rather than confronting the eighteen-year-old boy.

His lawyer did not add any new details and has not confirmed the theories spreading across social platforms. Instead, the statement pushed back on the assumptions. “We do not believe what followed happened the way it has been described, and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court,” the message continued.

For now, the only confirmed information is the charge and the brief statement.
