Trevor Noah’s Suggestion That Rappers Remove The N-Word From Their Lyrics Has The Entire Internet Arguing
Trevor Noah’s suggestion that rappers release edited versions of their songs without the N-word is being met with mixed reviews on social media.
"[Rappers] should just make like another version, like a non-Black people version that everyone can rap along to," Noah suggested during his radio interview with The Breakfast Club.
This suggestion comes after Jane The Virgin actress Gina Rodriguez found herself in hot water after using the word while rapping along to a song by The Fugees.
Quickly, the Instagram video caused a heated debate on the Internet about whether or not it’s appropriate for Latinx people to say the derogatory slang used to describe African American people. Most hold the perspective that if you aren’t Black, the words should be completely off-limits due to its hurtful origin.
Unsurprisingly, Trevor's idea was met with mixed reactions with some demanding the N-word be removed from rapper’s vocabulary, while others were left wondering what happened to creative license.

"In America, I understand there's a fundamental confusion that happens in and around hip hop, and some people don't understand the sensitivities that they need to have in and around words that they're using," Noah shared with Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God.
He cautioned, "It's not like you can't use the word – you can use it, but don't be shocked when something happens to you."

While the suggestion may have had mixed reviews, it’s without question, the use of the N-word has been long been a hot topic that needs to be addressed.
"Some people need to say to themselves, 'I grew up with hip hop. I may have identified with Black culture. But I also understand that I'm not Black or I have not lived the Black experience,’" Trevor continued. "There's something that comes with that."
