R. Kelly’s Inner Circle Could Face Charges, According To Federal Prosecutors

The initial indictment against R. Kelly might be thrown out for more extensive charges.

A prosecutor told a judge that federal agents are heavily considering bringing indictments against more people in R. Kelly’s circle. Prosecutor Angel Krull spoke before a judge Thursday (July 25) where she revealed that a “more far-ranging indictment” could replace the initial charges that were brought against the embattled R&B singer in mid-July, according to the Associated Press.

  • She did not elaborate on what new charges might be added to the case nor name the possible investigative targets that might be prosecuted alongside Kelly, who has continuously pleaded not guilty.

The AP reported that the defense is allegedly looking into the allegations celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti levied against R. Kelly at a recent news conference. Avenatti currently represents several of Kelly’s accusers and is facing fraud charges in a separate federal case.

  • The prosecutor, Krull, also asked for an order to limit what attorneys can say publicly about the evidence.

Right now, Kelly is facing charges relating to child pornography. The 52-year-old is currently being held without bond in Chicago and is also facing similar charges in New York. The next hearing for his case is set for Wednesday, July 31.
