Van Jones Gives His Opinion On Why He Thinks Black Voters Are ‘Frustrated’ With Biden

Some polls claim the president is struggling with African-Americans.

Van Jones says the Black community is frustrated with President Joe Biden.

The political commentator, who once famously claimed that Donald Trump was becoming American’s “uniter-in-chief, discussed his opinion piece about the Biden administration on CNN. He told the outlet,  “You’re going through a summer now of real heartbreak with Black voters, the polls show that. I think Biden’s got to take that very seriously.”

Jones cited from a CNN poll that found, "Among people of color, 45% now approve of Biden's overall performance, down outlets 54% in the spring. That decline includes a 6-point dip among Black adults and a 9-point decline among Hispanic adults." On the other hand, a NY Times/Siena college poll shows Black approval for Biden’s handling of jobs is 62%, higher than “any other race or ethnicity, age group or education level.”

The criminal justice activist continued, “I think the other thing that people don't always track is that the African-American community pays very close attention to politics. We're probably the most politically engaged group in the country. So when you see stuff happen for other groups, whether it is the Ukrainians getting billions of dollars or the Asian-Americans getting hate crimes bill done very quickly, you say, but, where is our voting rights bill, where is our police reform bill, where are the bills that help us?”

He also added, “There are lots of good reasons people understand that paper-thin majority, but then you're left with that sense of heartbreak.”

It’s important to note, there was no hate crime bill specifically for Asian-Americans. The COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act did not have “Asian” in the title of the bill. In short, the legislation was signed amid the attacks on Asian Americans and the bill designated a Department of Justice point person to expedite the review of hate crimes.

Jones also stressed the Biden administration needs to improve on messaging their wins. For example, appointing more Black women judges to the federal bench than any president in history,  the Emmett Till Antilynching Act Of 2022, record-breaking funding for HBCUs and several executive orders, like the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Black Americans.
