Pharrell Williams Gifts Free Music Festival Passes To Graduating D.C. High School Students

The singer says, "You truly inspired all of us through your resiliency" during the pandemic.

High school seniors in the nation’s capital will receive a special graduation gift and diplomas. Pharrell Williams announced Friday (June 10) that he is distributing free tickets to the D.C. students for his Something in the Water 2022 festival, which runs from June 17-19.

"Congrats to this year's D.C. high school graduates on all that you guys have accomplished. You truly inspired all of us through your resiliency and your ability to learn – through a pandemic," the singer said in an Instagram post.

"You deserve to be celebrated. And so we're gonna. So on behalf of Something In The Water and XQ Institute, we would like to give each of you one free pass to the festival. On Juneteenth weekend, we're going to celebrate with music, art, culture, and most importantly – you!"

Mayor Muriel Bowser also expressed her delight in the graduating class’ achievement.

“The school year is coming to a close, and we want every DC graduate to know just how proud we are of their accomplishments! That’s why all 2022 @dcpublicschools & charter school graduates will receive a free to @Pharrell’s SOMETHING IN THE WATER Festival!” she tweeted.

According to local station WUSA, tickets to the festival are unaffordable for many D.C. residents. Prices started at $299 before taxes and fees for Tier 1 passes.
