Madonna Upset With M.I.A. After Super Bowl Stunt

Madonna says M.I.A. flipping the bird was a “teenage thing to do.”

Madonna may have been the Roman goddess of the vaunted proceedings during this year's Super Bowl halftime show, but it was hip hop iconoclast M.I.A. who stole all the headlines when she decided to flip TV cameras the bird. Speaking out about the incident on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, Madge admitted that she was none-too-pleased.
"I wasn’t happy about it," she said. "I understand it’s punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy and positivity, it seemed negative.”
Madonna said she thought the obscene gesture was both ineffective and inappropriate.
“It’s such a teenager, kind of irrelevant thing to do," she said. "There was such a feeling of love and unity there, what was the point? It was just out of place.”
M.I.A., who appears on two songs on Madonna's upcoming album MDNA, has reportedly apologized to the pop queen. In a separate interview with Carson Daly, Madonna said the apology was accepted.
"I know she feels bad,” she said. “I accept her apology, but you know, I think she still has her head in the sand right now.”
Speaking of her many other collaborators during the well-reviewed halftime extravaganza, Madge said she was just looking for people who knew how to have fun.
“I wanted to choose fun people. Nicki [Minaj] and M.I.A. are cool because they have youthful energy and I think they’re badasses in their own right," she said in the Seacrest interview. "And LMFAO, to me they’re just pure joy and they crack me up."
"I love Cee Lo. I’ve always loved his voice. I feel like he’s somebody really up-and-coming," Madonna said. "It was like a dream come true for me. I got to work with a lot of people that I wanted to work with.” is your #1 source for Black celebrity news, photos, exclusive videos and all the latest in the world of hip hop and R&B music.
