R&B kings Tank and Tyrese took to the Verzuz stage and brought the kind of R&B energy Verzuz was built for when they faced off. 

The two crooners turned the matchup into a night full of nostalgia, live vocals, and plenty of playful shade. The event overdelivered, giving fans a hit-for-hit battle between two singers with deep catalogs and a crowd ready to sing along to nearly every round. 

The night was not just about the music, though. One of the most talked-about moments came when Tank kept poking fun at Tyrese’s turtleneck, with the joke becoming an instant running gag across the battle. That moment was one of the funniest parts of the event, and social clips from the night showed the crowd leaning all the way into the joke. 

The Verzuz also brought out plenty of surprises: Jamie Foxx, Trey Songz, LeToya Luckett, and Chingy all made appearances, giving the battle a little extra star power on top of the main event. During the battle, Tyrese shared with the audience that Ginuwine was originally scheduled to show up, too. “Our brother Ginuwine was supposed to come here and surprise us,” he told the audience. “Because of all of the craziness going on at the airports, our brother was at the airport… We was supposed to close the show with a TGT song.” TGT is the R&B collective made up of Tyrese, Ginuwine, and Tank, and according to Tyrese, the group has another album coming. 

Tyrese leaned into his ballads, even though he complained about the sound crew working with Tank to sabotage him, while Tank matched him with the kind of records that helped define his catalog and his place in R&B. It was a true battle of love (and lust) songs.

By the end of the night, the matchup felt like a celebration of two artists who helped shape a whole era of slow jams, heartbreak records, and grown-folks R&B. With the jokes, the guest appearances, and the sing-along moments, Tank vs. Tyrese gave fans exactly what they came for.
