Dave Chappelle Attacked On Stage In Los Angeles

He was performing at a Netflix comedy festival.

On Tuesday (May 3) night, Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage while performing at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles for the Netflix Is A Joke Fest, an 11-day stand-up comedy festival.

According to CBS Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department said the unidentified male suspect was armed with a knife blade and was carrying a replica handgun. Chapelle was not harmed.

The suspect was arrested and will face a felony assault with a deadly weapon charge, according to reports.

It’s unknown why the male suspect attacked the 48-year-old comedian.

After the incident, according to The Hollywood Reporter, video footage showed Chappelle saying, “It was a trans man,” which appeared to be a joke.

BuzzFeed News reporter Brianna Sacks, who was in the audience, claimed the man “got his ass kicked” by security.

The Los Angeles Police Department also said they were not aware of the condition of the male suspect. In a video clip circulating on social media purported to have been taken after the incident, the alleged attacker did appear to have an injury to his arm.
