Atlanta Journalist Reportedly Attacked By Uber Driver
Tabitha Turner, a popular sports analyst for the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Dream, revealed that she was violently attacked by an Uber driver over the weekend.
According to FOX 5, Turner says she was “pepper-sprayed and assaulted” by an Uber driver on Interstate 85.
At around 3:40 p.m. Saturday (June 21), Turner was picked up by Uber driver Nicole Smith at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. As they traveled northbound on Interstate 85, Turner reportedly asked the driver "to roll up the windows and turn on the air conditioning due to the extreme heat." The police report that the driver became upset, pulled into the emergency lane on the highway, and demanded that Turner leave the vehicle.
Addressing the alleged incident on Wednesday (June 25) during a press conference at The Cochran Law Firm in Atlanta, Turner was accompanied by her attorney, Miguel A. Dominguez of the Dominguez Law Firm. She spoke about being traumatized by the alleged encounter and accused Smith of spreading false information about the incident on social media. Turner claims that she has been constantly harassed and threatened online.
"Pulling over on the expressway with cars speeding by, telling me to get out with my bags—it’s not a reasonable request," Turner said as she fought back tears.
"I have a one-year-old daughter that I like to take to games with me. Now I can’t, because I don’t know who’s going to be there to attack me based on what she’s saying,” she continued.
Following the incident, Turner plans to pursue legal action against Uber and the driver. She also hopes that her case “brings attention to passenger safety and accountability on rideshare platforms.”
