Damon Wayans Sr. fell hard for another woman shortly after divorcing his ex-wife, Lisa Thorner, in 2000. The only issue was that she previously dated the comedian’s nephew.

The “Poppa’s House” star spilled about the hilarious situation while being a recent guest on “Club Shay Shay,” and detailed that he had, in fact, briefly dated the woman after she split from his nephew.

“I was in love with her, that’s the thing," the 64-year-old told podcast host Shannon Sharpe, who was visibly shocked by the admission. “You ain’t never done the Jackson 5?” Wayans asked, referencing the swapping that happened between Randy Jackson and Jermaine Jackson, when the latter married his younger brother’s ex-girlfriend, Alejandra Oaziaza, in 1995.

“It wasn't like they were in love,” Wayans continued around the 2:30:00 mark of the video above. “Do you know how small the pool is out here in Cali? The dating pool? And this was like, 2001, [2002], something like that.”

Wayans recalled that following his divorce from Thorner, whom he shares four children with, he was single for roughly two years before he dated again. “And then I saw her [his nephew’s ex] and I was just like,’‘Oh my God. I’m in love.’ And then I found out my nephew had dated [her].”

But before pursuing the woman, he checked with his nephew just in case she was off-limits. “I’m like, you know, ‘What’s up?’ and he’s like, ‘That’s you,’” Wayans explained. “And I’m like, ‘Okay, pass the Courvoisier, let’s go!’ And I went ahead and I fell in love and it was okay.” But in response to Sharpe wondering if Wayans was “clowned” for dating the woman, Wayans admitted that “family gatherings [are] awkward.”

But Wayans keeps it all in the family on his hit CBS show, where he stars alongside his oldest son, Damon Wayans Jr. Season one of “Poppa’s House” ends later this month while we have our fingers crossed for a second season.
