Taraji P. Henson Wins Her First Golden Globe

Cookie Lyon takes home the statue for Best Actress in a Drama Series.

Taraji P. Henson finally got her piece of history. The actress won her first-ever Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Drama Series for her iconic role of Cookie Lyon in Empire
True to form, Taraji handed out actual cookies on her way up to the stage and when a someone on her way to the podium got in the way of her dress, she hollered at him to "get off my train!"
"Who knew that playing an ex-convict would take me all around the globe," she mused after accepting her award. Once the show's producers attempted to cut her off mere moments into her speech, Cookie wasn't having it. "Please wrap? Wait a minute! I've waited twenty years for this, you gon' wait," she said to uproarious applause.
Henson was up against Viola Davis for the award. The How to Get Away With Murder actress made history last year for becoming the first Black woman to take home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. At the time, Henson — who was also nominated in the category — leapt to her feet to applaud Davis' win, and her fellow actress returned the favor by acknowledging her in her acceptance speech.

This is a huge win for Henson, whose portrayal of Cookie has been recognized commercially and critically, but with no major awards until now. Coupled with USA Today naming her Entertainer of the Year, this ensure's 2016 will be the year of Cookie Lyon, indeed.

It hasn't been a bad year for her personal life, either. Get the scoop on Taraji's hot new man with BET Breaks, below: is your No. 1 source for Black celebrity news, photos, exclusive videos and all the latest in the world of hip hop and R&B music.
