Gabourey Sidibe Jokes That Her Twins Won’t Get a Birthday Party Until They Can Spell It
Actress Gabourey Sidibe isn’t sugarcoating any aspect of parenting—not even party planning.
In a candid interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Academy-nominated star revealed that she and her husband, Brandon Frankel, have no plans to throw an extravagant bash for their soon-to-be 1-year-old twins, Cooper and Maya. Her reason? They won’t remember it.
The “Empire” alum told the outlet that “The babies are not going to remember,” shutting down any expectations of grand balloon arches or rented-out party venues. Instead, she joked that Cooper and Maya will get a birthday party “when they can spell ‘birthday.’”
While many parents might feel the pressure to go big for first birthdays—complete with themes, photographers, and Pinterest-level decor, the 41-year-old star said she and her husband are considering a trip to the aquarium instead.
“The fun things about babies [is that] they've seen very little, they know nothing, they are not traveled at all,” The “American Horror Stories” star said. “And so they're going to be really, really impressed by an octopus.”
Sidibe welcomed her twins in April 2024 but didn’t share the news publicly until later that summer in June. She and Frankel made their relationship Instagram official in May 2019 with a selfie, just two months after they met on the dating app Raya.
