Big Freedia Explodes on His New Single
Not many can get you on your feet like "Queen of Bounce," Big Freedia. The New Orleans' native who has been making us drop-it since the '90s — way before Miley Cyrus's viral twerk video — is back with his latest a$tastik jam, "Explode," off of his upcoming album, Just Be Free.
On "Explode" Freedia effortlessly coaxes you into a hip-gyrating trance as he shouts, "Release your wiggle/ Release your anger/ Release your mind/ Release your job/ Release the time," over the hip hop/dance beat. The high-energy, percussion-heavy track is an extension of Big Freedia's 2011 underground rambunctious anthem "Azz Everywhere," which inspired a 2013 Guinness World Book twerking record.
"The idea behind 'Explode' is that it was the way I was feeling, like I'm going to explode," Freedia told Rolling Stone. "Also, when I'm on stage, I feel like I'm going to explode. That's why I say, 'Release your wiggle.' This made sense for it to be the first single because I want people to know that I'm coming out with a bang ;)"
Freedia will be kicking the summer off with a "bang," indeed; his hit Fuse reality show, Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce, starts its second season this June and his album, Just Be Free, is set to be released June 17, and is available for pre-order, now.
